Riders raise $7,000 to support Benalla

The memory of the Horror bushfire seasons over the past years, together with the more recent devastating floods, are still vivid in the minds of Victoria’s North East residents.

Through these destructive events the courageous men and women of the districts CFA and SES groups were there to defend and look after our community.

It was this desire to give something back to the local CFA and SES that saw Benalla Motorcycles and Power Equipment begin the FIRE IT Up charity road ride day.

On Saturday November 5th, the third Fire It Up charity ride took place with more than 150 riders and pillions drawn together to Benalla from as far as Geelong and Albury to raise much needed funds and show their support for the local emergency services.

The parade of motorcycles over 1 km long, rumbled through Benalla by fire truck escort from the local CFA Brigade, before heading out on their ride.

Event organiser Natasha Treacy, from Benalla Motorcycles, said “the event was planned to raise funds for both the CFA and SES. We have some great roads to ride here in the North East, and this ride day is a way for us to show our support for what these wonderful men and women do for our communities. This year’s event raised a fantastic $7,090” Natasha said.

This year, participants toured through the Strathbogie Ranges to Euroa where morning tea was provided by the local SES. From there, it was down through Yarck, Alexandra and onto Eildon for a BBQ lunch cooked up by the Goorambat CFA overlooking the lake. The group then snaked its way through the Eildon National Park, past Jamieson onto Mansfield before heading back to Benalla.

The event’s raffle was drawn at the conclusion of the day with the following winners: 1st Prize: Tanya Fowler - Polaris Youth Outlaw 50 ATV RRP $2,395, 2nd Prize: Laurhan Phillips -Toro 22" Personal Pace Lawnmower RRP $796, 3rd Prize: John Dummler - Nolan N62 Casey Stoner replica helmet in display case RRP $499, 4th Prize: Dwayne Yates - Local handmade timber cheese board RRP $66.

The ride day was sponsored by McDonalds Benalla and Polaris Australia, and together with the support of local businesses and motorcycles accessory suppliers the event was a great success.

Past Event: 2010 FIRE IT UP Charity Ride Day

We are sorry to advise that the 2010 ride, that was to be held on Saturday 6th November , will be postponed due to road closures. The major roads between Wangaratta and Mansfield  will be closed to the public due to the Targa High Country Car Race being held over that weekend . We are currently rescheduling our ride and  will advise when we have set the date. We look forward to seeing you all then.

Past Event: 2009 FIRE IT UP Charity Ride Day

This year's "Fire it up" for the firies and emergency services, charity road ride day was held on Saturday the 7th November 2009.

We had a great turn out with 150 participants on the day and compared with last year, we had fantastic weather. The day started with everyone at Benalla Motorcycles which looked like a "show and shine" day with so many bikes. After a flood of last minute registration and a quick information speal from Natasha, the group was off. The Benalla CFA escorted us with a truck at the front and rear through Benalla. It was a great sight with the group stopping traffic as the parade took up the whole main street of the town.

We headed out towards the Strathbogies and then into Euroa for our morning tea break. Thanks to the Euroa SES guys and girls for putting this on. After here the group headed to Tolmie for Lunch were the 150 group ate enough for 200! We must have been a very hungrey group. Thanks to John and the Tolmie CFA group for our BBQ lunch. After a nice break and bit of a chat, we headed to the Moyhu pub for a drink as the day was getting hotter. Thanks to the gang at the pub to catering to such a large group and a donation to the cause. Next it was the last leg home through the Warby's back to Benalla. The group was escoted back with the CFA truck to The Commercial where we all enjoyed a cold drink.

The SES drew the raffle at around 6pm with most of the tickets sold (thanks to the hard selling skills of Sharen through the day!) We had over $2,500 of prizes drawn including a Nolan Helmet, Draggin Jeans and Luggage Bags.

The day offically ended after the draw but most kicked on to enjoy the band and lakeside fireworks.

Thanks to all those that assisted in the event and to all the sponsors that got on board.

The total funds raised on the day was $5,470.00. These fund have been now been passed on to the Benalla and Euroa SES and Benalla and Tolmie CFA.

We had editorials in the Benalla Ensign and the Weekly Times, as well as on the National CFA website. Below is just a few of the photos that were taken on the day. We have posted all of the ride day photos on to our facebook page and are still collecting photos from anyone if they have any.
